Not at all! We're growing, not dying! We will continue to run our current rock/pop programs and continue to call them Jam Bands. But through the parent organization of AMP we will be adding new programs in various genres very soon, all with the purpose of helping you or your child perform live music!

This move comes from a desire to deepen our connection to the community, to our students, and to you. Having a non-profit in place will make it easier to share the existing workload and eventually to broaden and improve our programs without passing the financial burden on to our students or their families. Eventually, we hope to find ways to subsidize our programs and/or provide scholarships to qualifying families, making our programs more accessible to everyone. We feel a great passion for helping facilitate opportunities to perform and are confident that having become a non-profit will help us do so in a better way!

Applied Music Programs of Utah’s mission is to offer fun, accessible, and experiential music education programs, providing young and adult students with inspiring opportunities to learn by doing and to participate in joyful performances within a supportive community.

Short answer- the same folks who ran UJB!

The founding members of AMP are the owners of Utah Jam Bands, Richard Gailey and Alicia Wrigley, as well as. longtime UJB instructor Devin Moore.

Currently, Alicia, Rich and Devin are serving as both the executive officers of AMP and the founding board members. We'll be adding an independent volunteer board in early 2026.

Technically, it already has! As of December 6, 2024 we have already incorporated as a new nonprofit with the State of Utah, and have submitted our application with the IRS to recieve tax-exempt 501(c)(3) status. It generally takes the IRS months to approve that application, but we anticipate to be fully up and running from a legal standpoint by the end of 2025.

We'll be adding new programs as quickly as we can. We anticipate rolling out at least one new program by the end of 2025.

For our existing Jam Bands programs, we will continue to operate out of rented spaces like Murphy's Guitars and Legacy Prep Academy. However, our first priority as AMP is to get a permanent location for our programs.

All of the back-end work is being completed by individual AMP staff members in their homes until it's possible to get some office space.

Applied Music Programs is a Utah nonprofit organization, and we have submitted our application for tax-exempt status under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We fully expect the IRS to approve our application, and when approved, donations will be tax-deductible retroactive to our incorporation date (December 2024). However, until we receive confirmation of our exempt status, we recommend consulting your tax advisor regarding the deductibility of your donation. Your support helps us bring accessible music education and programs to our community—thank you!

Short answer- unfortunately, no. Donations to a non-profit are tax-deductible, but payment for services that a nonprofit provides are not tax deductible. While we anticipate getting grant funding and private donations in the future, tuition is currently our main source of income as an organization and is super important to keeping us running. Thanks for your continued support!

There are significant costs associated with incorporation and legal setup of a non-profit. Currently, those are being funded personally by the owners of Utah Jam Bands, Richard Gailey and Alicia Wrigley. Any donations made at these early stages will go a long way to help offset those personal costs to Rich and Alicia.

As we get organized, we'll also need volunteers to help with social media, running merch tables at concerts, fundraising, and various other administrative tasks. Please reach out via our Contact Us page if you would like to volunteer.

We formed with Richard, Alicia and Devin Moore as temporary founding board members, but will need to form an independent board by early 2026 and move current UJB founders and empoloyees to staff positions only. If you are interested in serving on that independent board and have expertise you can lend to the organization, please also get in contact.

We've got big dreams! Here's a few:

- Obtain a permanent operating location for our programs that we own or lease.

- Offer experiential music education programs not just in rock and pop, but in other genres as well.

- Keep our program tuition affordable to the average family, offer scholarships and/or subsidies for our programs where possible, and introduce other cost-effective methods of music education.
